Ted Barker

TED BARKER

b. 1985, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Ted Barker is a multidisciplinary artist based in Winnipeg. His most recognized work is within the mediums of drawing and painting. Currently he is interested primarily in self-portraiture, often obscuringhis features with objects and costumes found among the debris of his personal history. These objects and materials, discarded during periods of significant change are adorned on his figure and rendered in a careful and faithful manner. The exactitude of the represented objects is an attempt to document these artifacts. The goal is perhaps to ensnare these scraps in order to analyze them in depth later on.

Ted Barker has participated in major exhibitions and art fairs in New York, Montreal, Vancouver and Winnipeg. His work has been written about in Border Crossings and Canadian Art, and was recently featured in Brooklyn-based magazine, Esopus.
